The euglenoids are ovoid, spindle-shaped, or flattened single cells (unicells), of various transverse shapes depending on the genus or species (Rosowski, 2003). Euglenoids have been reported from a very wide variety of habitats ranging from marine sediments to ephemeral ‘wagon ruts’ or tree hollows. Most typically they are found in nutrient-rich freshwater ponds (Farmer, 2009).
